When applying filters in a Plan or Portfolio view within OnePlan, users may experience an issue where no results are displayed, even though matching data exists.
This behavior is often caused by the “Show Hierarchy” setting being enabled while filters are applied.
Symptoms
Users may report:
- Filters returning no projects or tasks
- Data appearing to be missing after applying filters
- The same filter working previously or in other views but not currently
Cause
The “Show Hierarchy” option changes how filtered results are displayed.
When Show Hierarchy is enabled:
- OnePlan attempts to preserve the parent-child structure of items
- Items that meet filter criteria may be hidden if their parent (or hierarchy context) does not meet the filter
- This can result in empty results, even when matching items exist
Resolution
To ensure filters return expected results:
Step-by-Step
- Navigate to your Plan or Portfolio view
- Select Filters
- Locate the “Show Hierarchy” checkbox (top of the filter panel)
- Uncheck “Show Hierarchy”
- Click Apply Filters
Example (from UI)
In the Filters panel (as shown in the screenshot):
- The “Show Hierarchy” checkbox appears at the top right
- Ensure the checkbox is unchecked before applying filters
Summary
- Leave “Show Hierarchy” unchecked when using filters that need to return specific items
- Only enable Show Hierarchy if you intentionally want to:
- Preserve the full parent-child structureView contextual hierarchy (not strictly filtered results) This behavior is expected and tied to how hierarchical data is structured in OnePlan
- Filtering works most accurately when hierarchy constraints are not enforced
